News Center -TDO-Every year on July 18, South Africans, together with the international community, honor Nelson Mandela, former president and international icon, at the celebration of ”Nelson Mandela International Day”. Since its launch in 2009, it has encouraged individuals to take action to make the world better and to build a global movement for good in doing so.
Initially, people were asked to give 67 minutes of their time, and then they began to address issues affecting our society with a special purpose and individualized initiative. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of Nelson Mandela Day and commemorates the milestones achieved while reinforcing the need to continue the Nelson Mandela principles by enriching the lives of the endangered and the less fortunate in society.
The South African Embassy in Ankara continues its annual activities on food and nutrition for refugees from the battlefields in cooperation with the Ankara Refugee Luncheon Support Group (ARLSG) to fulfill its commitment to Nelson Mandela International Day.
The self-funded voluntary humanitarian group and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the South African Embassy assisted these organizations in providing food to refugees and displaced persons in UNHCR shelters in Ankara.
The South African Embassy in Ankara hopes to encourage the ideals of tackling Poverty, which contributes to the spirit of "Nelson Mandela International Day", on a Mandela day every day.
