İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- 18.09.2017 It seems UK started to be faced with the harsh effects of Brexit. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, told trade unionists that Britain would have to pay a price if it limits the free movement of European Union citizens after its departure from the bloc.
At G20 trade union event conducted in Berlin, she said "If the British government ends the free movement of people, that will have its price “.
She added "That's not malice but I cannot have all the good sides and then say there will be an upper limit of 100,000 or 200,000 EU citizens, no more, or just researchers, but please nobody else. This will not work".
She also indicated that in case of such act, the remaining 27 EU members would have to think about how to compensate the burden and overhaul obstacles.
