İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-According to the ARD-DeutchlandTrend survey, the approval rating of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has increased to 60 percent, reaching the highest mark since September 2015 while leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Martin Schulz has lost three percentage points, now having a rating of 52 percent.
According to the rating, Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble enjoys the highest rating among German politicians of 65 percent.
On the other hand, it seems the federal government lost support as its point drop 4 percent to 44%.
In September 2015, Merkel’s approval rating was 63 percent. It seems German public affected by refugee crisis, economic problems happened in the Deutche Bank, political problems in Middle East.
Recently, German Chancellor Angela Merkel became a popular topic with her confrontation with President Erdoğan as German authorities did not let Turkish officers to go to Germany before the significant referendum that would change the political system of Turkey. Each day German media make accusations about President Erdoğan. In return Erdoğan said ‘’Nazism is not dead’’ in Germany and bilateral relations stressed. In the previous day, German tourism agencies declared that they would not sell trip programs to Turkey.
This year is the election year of Europe as France, Germany, Holland and many others go to ballot boxes. There is a rising trend of extreme nationalism in Europe. Campaign of French presidential candidate, Marine Le Pen, from The National Front (FN) party, is a great example of it. General elections in Germany will be held on September 24, 2017.
