News Centre –TDO- Macedonia's Ambassador to Turkey Ankara Zvonko Mucunski and his spouse Tatjana Mucunska have hosted a reception at Ankara Sheraton Hotel to mark the 27th anniversary of Macedonia's independence and the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Macedonian army.
The reception was attended by Vice President Fuat Oktay, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Faruk Kaymakcı and Second Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Metin Gürak, as well as many representatives of diplomatic missions and other guests
In his opening speech Ambassador Mucunski said that Turkey and Macedonia had strong relations based on mutual understanding, trust and good will and that the two countries had supported each other over 27 years.
Mucunski underlined that Macedonia and Turkey had developed an examplary relationship in many fields, ranging from culture and history to politics and the economy and added "The intertwined good relationship between Macedonia and brother country Turkey should not be rendered insignificant".
Emphasising that the two countries are trustworthy allies in many fields, Mucunski said " Turkey has always been one of the strongest and most open supporters of Macedonia's NATO membership bid".
In his speech, Vice President Fuat Oktay said that relations between Macedonia and Turkey were special because of historical and cultural ties and familial ties.
Emphasising that the perfect relationship between Turkey and Macedonia on regional and international platforms would continue in the coming period, Oktay reminded the audience that Turkey was the first country to recognise Maceonia.
Oktay added that Turkey was the first country to appoint an ambassador at Skopje and said "The Turkish community in Macedonia and citizens of Turkey of Macedonian origin act as a bridge between our countries and play an important role in the political, economic and cultural lives of the two countries. We believe that the bilateral relationship that is built on solid historical and cultural ground and the affinity between the two societies will grow with new steps in the coming period"
After the speeches, guests were offered refreshments.
