LEGACY OF HAYDAR ALIYEV

Haydar Aliyev gave importance to the development of multi-dimensional cooperation with friendly and brotherly Turkey in the direction of Azerbaijan's integration with the international system, ensuring regional security, socio-economic, scientific and cultural breakthroughs and ensuring that this policy continues on a rising line. Thus, a unique brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Turkey has been formed.

Relations between our countries in diplomacy, economy, energy, trade, education, culture, military and other fields have strengthened and reached strategic alliance level. More than 200 agreements have been signed with the aim of strengthening the legal basis for the further development of bilateral relations built on these solid foundations, and the number of high official visits between the two countries has increased exponentially every year.

Haydar Aliyev was architect of “Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Crude Oil Pipeline” and “Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas Pipeline” projects which brought the Caspian Sea energy resources to the world market. Furthermore, these projects have played crucial role in the path of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey.  Today, the last stop of these projects located in Ceyhan and was given the name of Haydar Aliyev. Indeed these projects should not be seen merely as economic projects. At the same time, it has become a project that unites the fraternal people separated from one another as a result of the cruel historical processes.

Indeed it is essential to mention one more thing here. As a sign of the eternal love and respect of grateful Turkish people to Haydar Aliyev, Haydar Aliyev was awarded the international Ataturk Peace Prize by the Turkish state. Hacettepe, Ankara, Atatürk, Ege, Dokuz Eylül, and more than 10 universities awarded honorary doctorate to Haydar Aliyev. His name was given to streets and parks newly opened by many city municipalities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Kars and Giresun.

After Haydar Aliyev passed away on December 12, 2003, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has creatively continued the political legacy he inherited. He has also effectively implemented the foreign policy vision of Azerbaijan and has made great contributions to the relations between the two countries. Ilham Aliyev has an exceptional role at the 21st century project Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway (BTK). We strongly believe that these great projects will make important contributions to Turkey and Azerbaijan’s goal of becoming a common power which means new opportunities.Started by the President of the two countries with a strong will, these projects will make important contributions to the goal of becoming a common power that means new opportunities for Turkey and Azerbaijan. In this sense, these projects will bring friendly and brotherly Turkey to the status of a central country in the transport of energy resources.

Based on a long history, the common language, origin, culture, traditions and customs, friendship, brotherhood and strong relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are the indication of the exceptional services of sainted Haydar Aliyev that he left behind as legacy.
