KOSOVO: A REGION PUNISHED FOR ITS GLORIOUS PAST





When on February 17th 2008, the youngest state in the Balkans declared its independence, the USA, Albania and Turkey were the first to recognise Kosovo. Once an autonomous region if former Yugoslavia, the administrative centre of Kosovo is Pristina. The landmass of the country is 10,887 km². The country of 2,200,000 is ruled by parliamentary democracy. Its currency is the Euro. 92 per cent of the population is of Albanian origin. The six stars in Kosovo’s flag represent the other ethnic groups in the country, including Turks.
