News Center –TDO-Japan’s Ambassador to Turkey Akio Miyajima hosted an event the occasion of “Grant Assistance for Local Projects (GGP)”.
Japan’s Ambassador to Turkey Akio Miyajima, parliamentarians and project officers of 8 different projects accepted to be carried out in 2019.
“Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) “subsidizes to comparatively small scaled projects availing to local development in the scope of “Japan Official Development Aid”.
Thanks to this program, from 1989 to the present day in 142 countries and regions, approximately 9 billion Japanese Yen worth of aid is carried out annually.
The 8 projects that will take place in 2019 are:
· Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mobile Health Vehicle Project
· Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Patient Transport Service Project
· Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Rehabilitation Equipment for Disabled People Project
· Köyceğiz Mobile Health Vehicle Project
· Rehabilitation Center for Pamukova Rehabilitation Center Project
· Ekinözü Municipality Patient Transport Vehicle Project
· Altınordu Municipality Mobile Health Vehicle Project
· Bahadın Municipality Women's Vocational Training Center Project
Japan’s Ambassador to Turkey Miyajima made a opening speech at the event and said: "I work very hard, but I'm glad to be here. I visited 25 cities in Turkey so far. Everywhere I go, I meet extremely warmly, tasting delicious Turkish food. I am delighted. Turkey and Japan are geographically far apart, but it is close in people's hearts.
Japan, taking into consideration the long-standing friendly relations with Turkey attaches great importance to this grant. Since 2001, 48 projects have been awarded a total of $ 3.6 million in 30 provinces. This program in Turkey, is being implemented in four main areas; health, women, including education and disaster management.
In the regions where the people of the region cannot go to the hospitals in the city centers with their own means, the transportation equipment and mobile screening tools and medical equipment procurement supports have been realized. We also provide support for high-end medical supplies such as breast cancer screening equipment. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the state hospitals in the regions, we cooperate with them to allocate doctors and nurses.
In order to support women's socialization, this support is provided through organizing vocational training centers in which traditional handicraft production techniques and the necessary computer skills are taught in work life. We cooperate with the Public Education Centers and experts.
Support for the purpose of improving the equalization environment in coordination with the Ministry of National Education is provided for the primary schools where the buildings are not worn out or where sufficient training materials cannot be provided.
Vehicle and equipment supports are provided for the rapid realization of rescue operations in areas where major damage occurs due to frequent natural disasters and traffic accidents. We cooperate with AFAD and AKUT for the training activities of the equipment.
We got approximately 200 applications in 2019 and all applications were meticulously evaluated and we decided to support total of eight projects; Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mobile Health Vehicle Project, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Patient Transport Vehicle Project, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Rehabilitation Equipment for Disabled People, Köyceğiz Mobile Health Vehicle Project, Rehabilitation Center for Pamukova Disabled People Project, Ekinözü Municipality Patient Transport Vehicle Project and Altınordu Municipality Mobile Health Vehicle Project .
