ITALY VETOES EU STATEMENT RECOGNIZING GUAIDO AS INTERIM PRESIDENT




Serhat TUNAR-TDO- Italy vetoed the declaration of the European Union recognizing Juan Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said in a statement on the issue that those who could decide to change the current president in Venezuela are citizens of this country.

Germany, Austria, France, Britain, Spain and Sweden recognized Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela on Monday.

Against this attitude of Italy, the European Parliament said in a statement that the decisions of the unity should be respected.

On January 23, Juan Guaido declared himself Venezuela's interim president with open support from the United States and its allies, while the current president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, described Guaido's initiative as a "coup."

China, Iran, Mexico, Russia and Turkey, Venezuela's current president, Nicolas Maduro supports.
