Mustafa AY – TDO – 27.11.2017 Israeli Health Minister Yaakov Litzman resigned from his duty following ongoing dispute over railway maintenance in Sabbath – sacred day of Judaism which God rested on the 7th day following completing creation of World -. Minister Litzman has been affiliated to ultra-orthodox United Torah Judaism party and maintained coalition with PM Benjamin Netanyahu. However, since rail works was heard of in Sabbath day by Minister Litzman, he resigned from his duty without considering his decision for a moment.
Minister Litzman, in his resignation letter, made these utters: “It is unacceptable to witness that our religious value, which is Sabbath, is ignored and accordingly damaged”. Mr Litzman’s party plays a key role in Israeli politics because his party like the others identical in parliament are the voices of Mizrachi and Sephardic, out of Ashkenazi Israelis. These two groups of Israeli society are known to strictly comply with Torah’s decrees without no exception. Mr Litzman’s party also strictly adheres to Jewish traditions. So, as a hard-liner party holding 13 of government’s 67 seats, it can be ensured that they had an influence on some parts of society, which PM Netanyahu has to take into account.
