Mustafa AY – TDO – 28.10.2018 Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced that he nominated Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi for the next chief of staff. In his announcement, Lieberman shared his views “General Kochavi is the most proper, distinguished and veteran officer in the army.” Kovachi’s military experience comes from his previous offices that he undertook as the commander of Military Intelligence and Northern Group Command. Kochavi currently assumes the position of deputy chief of staff. Lieberman’ evaluation of Kochavi as ‘the most experienced’ can be attributable to his current position. That’s why, he was found appropriate nominee for the position.
Lieberman’s nominee will be presented to State Appointment Committee for the approval. In case of getting approval, PM Benjamin Netanyahu will decide whether or not General Kochavi becomes the next chief of staff. If he will be appointed, he’ll assume the duty on 1st of January, 2019. Current Chief of Staff Lt. General Gadi Eisenkot will complete his 4-year service on the eve of 2019.
