In honouring Madiba, as he was affectionately known, South Africa and the world will celebrate the centenary year in its journey by marking major milestones and continue his legacy by striving to change the way society treats its children and youth.
Each year on July 18, now known as International Nelson Mandela Day, South Africans get together for a good cause. The message behind the annual campaign is that each individual can make an impact through public service. We will continue the legacy of Mandela through a number of initiatives, projects and events, and strive to complete some of his unfinished dreams. Mandela Day calls on us all, every day, to make the world a better place. Each year on 18 July we look back on what has been done, and forward to what will be done. We will share with the world Mandela's vision and will work to broaden and deepen knowledge about Mandela and his work, support key projects in the fields of education and community outreach, and convene dialogues, particularly around the future we seek to build.
