Mustafa AY – TDO – 04.10.2018 On Wednesday, International Court of Justice gave its ruling over USA’s renewed sanctions on Iran. In accordance with the ruling, ICJ ordered Washington to ease the sanctions on Iran by pointing out the rationale that Trump administration’s renewed sanctions on Iran after unilateral withdrawal from 5+1 Nuclear Accord can’t encompass Iranian imports of humanitarian goods such as aviation safety equipment, medicine and foods. For this reason, ICJ ruled that USA has to ease sanctions on Iran.
Tehran filed ICJ a lawsuit against USA since Washington’s renewed sanctions violated the terms of 1955 Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights, which was signed between Iran and USA. After Iran’s efforts to attain ICJ’s support (sort of) culminated in success, US Secretary of Department Mike Pompeo proclaimed that USA unilaterally repealed the Treaty with Iran.
