Serhat TUNAR –TDO- Greek government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said that the protocol on Macedonia's NATO membership is expected to be approved by the Greek Parliament in the near future.
"A few days later, in the Greek Parliament, Greece will be voted on the protocol for Macedonia to become a member of NATO. In the event of a favorable vote, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the matter, which will enable the constitutional amendments and the new official name coming into force automatically."
The Athens and Skopje governments signed an agreement on Macedonia's official name on the shore of Lake Prespa on June 17 and the agreement was called the Prespa Agreement. Prespa Agreement, which ended the 27-year conflict between the two countries, opened the way for Macedonia's membership to NATO and the European Union and according to the agreement Macedonia's official name will be North Macedonia.
