FRANCE PLANNING TO ALLOCATE 2 BILLION DOLLARS MORE TO ITS DEFENSE BUDGET




Mustafa AY – TDO – 09.02.2018 French Ministry of Defense has been planning to raise its current defense budget of 56 billion dollars by 2 billion dollars between the years of 2019-2022. That France increases defense budget by 2 billion dollars was first set on agenda by French leader Emanuel Macron in 2017’s October. The increase by 2 billion dollars was going to be applied on total defense budget of the country each year till 2025, previously said President Macron. French Ministry of Defense stated that the planned increase in defense budget will be benefitted in accordance with both the pre-determined aims of NATO and France’s needs. French officials expressed that, starting from 2023, the increase in defense budget will become 3 billion dollars. So, France’s total military spending of 56 billion dollars will become 59 billion dollars till 2025. With this planned defense budget, France will allocate its 2 percent of GDP to the military spending, which will be efficiently contributed to NATO and EU’s Joint Military Mission on process of negotiation.
