Mustafa AY – TDO – 5.12.2017 On Monday, ex-President of Yemen Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed in an ambush by Houthi rebels, while he was allegedly trying to flee capital Sana’a. The footage regarding his death body that is released in social media led people’s minds to be occupied with a dilemma concerning whether or not it is true. However, General People’s Congress Party and Ministry of Interior confirmed the doubts as correct. In the ambush, General People’s Congress Party’ leader Yasser al-Awad was killed as well. In the recent days, Saleh called Yemeni society to the streets to fight against Houthi with the aim of purging them from the capital Sana’a.
In accordance with the official statements Ministry of Interior released, capital city of Yemen Sana’a’s grip was thoroughly seized in the wake of full-purge accomplished. However, that former President Saleh’s murder in an attempt to flee literally refutes Ministry of Interior’s statement, on the grounds that Saleh is the stronghold of the official authority standing against rebel Houthis in capital Sana’a. So, Houthis might have captured many areas or been closed to capture which could coerce Saleh to flee Sana’a as a last resort.
