EU COURT OF JUSTICE REJECTS CATALAN LEADERS’ APPEALS

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The European Court of Justice prevented the attempts of Catalonian politicians who took refuge in Belgium after the pro-independence referendum under the autonomous administration of Catalonia.

The European Court of Justice announced that the request for precautionary measures was taken by former President of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia CarlesPuigdemont, who took refuge in Belgium, and former Member of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, Antoni Comin.

According to Euronews, the European Court of Justice cited the refusal as Puigdemont and Comin won the European Parliament elections on 26 May, but were not declared European parliamentarians by the Spanish Central Election Board and lacked names in the list sent by the Spanish state. The EU court also rejected the appeal of Catalan politicians on the justification of the Central Election Board.
