EU COUNTRIES TO INCREASE THEIR DEFENSE EXPENDITURES




Serhat TUNAR -TDO- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the European Union countries and Canada have increased their defense spending.

Afghanistan, Kosovo, Iraq, Russia, Ukraine and the European Union - NATO relations were discussed at the two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers held in Brussels, Belgium.

After the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: "Since 2016, the European Union countries and Canada have increased their defense spending by 41 billion dollars. This figure will increase to $ 100 billion next year."

29 NATO members are expected to spend about 2 percent of GDP by 2024 by 2024. In addition, 30 land battleships, 30 air squadrons and 30 battleships within NATO are scheduled to be operational within 30 days.

"We give priority to our mission in Afghanistan. We will continue to train our troops in Afghanistan. We will support Iraq in order to prevent the re-emergence of ISIS. We will be sure of the security of all Western Balkan countries," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
