EU COMMISSION SUED POLAND FOR JUDICIAL REFORMS TO EU COURT OF JUSTICE

Mustafa AY – TDO – 26.09.2018 EU Commission has just sued Poland for judicial reforms to EU Court of Justice because of that newly-implemented reforms transgress the principle of judicial independence. EU Commission released a statement to underscore the gravity and vulnerability of the situation. “Poland’s moves to process judiciary through reformation undermines the principle of judicial independence since it is incompatible with EU’s jointly-accepted judicial framework”, stated EU Commission. In accordance with judicial reform, Warsaw decreased the retirement age of Supreme Court Judges from 70 to 65. Therefore, the current 27 of 72 Judges in the Supreme Court would be forced to retire from their service by the amended judicial law.
