News Centre-TDO- M. Allama Siddiki, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Turkey, hosted an event in consequence to the "Pohela Baishakh", the first day of the Bengal Solar Calendar, at Ankara Monec Hotel.
Bangledeshi students continuing their education in Turkey, diplomatic missions and many other guests attended to the New Year celebration.
The program started with a New Year Walk around the Hotel,attendees carrying a banner titled “Peace, Unity and Happiness” and singing an anthem, referring to the Bangla culture.
The event continued with performances by Bangladesh Shishu (children) AcademyTroupe and Altındağ Municipality Folk Dances Ensemble.
At the end of the performances Bangladesh cuisine was served to the guests.
Pohela Baishakh or Bangla Nababarsha is the first day of Bengali Calendar. It is celebrated on 14 April as a national holiday in Bangladesh and on 14 or 15 April in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and part of Assam by the people of Bengali heritage, irrespective of their religious faith.
"Pohela Baishakh" in Bangladesh, where many different groups and people of religion live, is very important because it is the common holiday of all segments.
