EARLY ELECTIONS IN GREECE

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos accepted Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s  demands to dissolve the government and hold early elections. Following Pavlopoulos' official approval, Greece is scheduled to hold early elections in July.

After his meeting with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Alexis Tsipras  said he assumed responsibility for the current situation posing a threat to the course of the Greek economy.

Following a meeting between the two, the presidential decree is expected to be issued for the early election to be held on 7 July.

The elections in Greece would normally be held in September. However, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras demanded early elections because his party, Syriza, was lagging behind the main opposition party after the European Parliament elections.
