DUTCH PEOPLE DO NOT TRUST ON UKRAINE




İlknur Şebnem Öztemel TDO-Ukraine which is struggling with civil war, had another strike from EU. European leaders have spelled out that Ukraine has not been promised to be EU member, nor to have any help from European armies, regarding the association agreement.

The EU-Ukraine association agreement foresee a free-trade area, cooperation on foreign policy and fighting against crime between two sides, signed in March 2014. The treaty was seen as a victory of pro-western Ukrainians who forced Viktor Yanukovych to resign. Following the event Russia imposed pressure over the country and annexed Crimea.

Nevertheless, Dutch people rejected the treaty and started a campaign as Ukraine is in a fast-track to EU. Yesterday, EU leaders agreed that EU membership would not be written in their ID Cards and no rights will be given to citizens for live and work in Europe.

Following the event, Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte, said “taking the agreement off the table would be the biggest present ever we could give to Vladimir Putin”.
