Mustafa AY – TDO – 19.02.2018 On February 10, attack helicopters belonging to Israeli Air Forces shot down a drone, which Israeli officials considered as an exact imitation of the US RQ-170 Sentinel, on Israel’s air space. Israeli officials claimed that the drone belongs to Iran. Following the claims by Israel, Iranian authorities immediately denied the claims.
On Sunday, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu took place in the security conference arranged in Germany’s Munich and addressed the conference. In his speech, Netanyahu made allusive remarks targeting Iranian officials in the conference. Netanyahu made an interesting presentation by bringing a piece of the wrecked drone to the stand and referred his presentation to Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif with incriminating words “did you recognize this?” Following the presentation, “we’ll not hesitate to take actions against those who pose imminent threat to our nation. We’ll show our determined stance against not only Iran’s proxies in the region, but also Iran itself”, said Netanyahu in a threatening manner. Moreover, Netanyahu interpreted Iran’s position in the Middle East as an expansionist policy.
After Netanyahu’s speech mostly targeting Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif addressed the conference. He spent its time by responding the allegations by Israeli PM. He denied all the claims by deeming them as unfounded, and then stated that he considered Netanyahu’s presentation with a piece of drone wreckage as a cartoonish circus. In addition to that, he underlined that they had no ambition like taking the Middle East under control.
