Mustafa AY – TDO – 05.10.2018 On Thursday, Danish government specified that they will not accept any refugee in since they would exceed the pre-determined official quota for asylum-seekers if taking one more refugee in the country. Government officials underlined the fact that they have more important issues than accepting refugees such as helping registered asylum-seekers integrate into Danish society.
Danish Minister in charge of Migration –Inger Stohberg- refused to concede UNHCR’s Resettlement Program, including in UN quota system – by ordering suspension of the programme in 2016. Minister Stohberg championed the idea of “the resettlement programme must be reshuffled to correct the errors within the system”. Moreover, Minister Stohberg has been taking objective and precautionary steps to eliminate refugee-related errors existing in Danish laws by making amendments on migration law of the country from 2015 on. By the virtue of amended laws, Denmark registered 3,500 asylum-seekers in 2017 and the figures are going lower every year.
