News Center –TDO- Cuba’s Ambassador to Turkey Luis Alberto Amaros Nunez hosted a reception at the METU Alumni Association due to the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.
The reception was attended by Zehra Zümrüt, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services, as well as a number of foreign mission chiefs.
Following the singing of the national anthems of the two countries, Ambassador Luis Alberto Amaros Nunez delivered a speech in which he said,” Sixty years ago, the Batista dictatorship was defeated and the Cuban revolution took place. Revolution's 60th Anniversary celebrations have begun in recent months to the Week of Solidarity with Cuba that took place in Turkey.
Thus, in 1959, under the leadership of Fidel Castro, revolution of the poor was made by the poor for the poor. Cuba has become the symbol of national resistance, honor and solidarity.
Our participatory democracy was once again seen in our discussion process with the constitution of the new constitution, attended by millions of Cubans.
In this process, the draft text has undergone major changes in line with public opinion. Our new Constitution will be made public on February 24th.
Our country continues its resistance under the leadership of the new President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
On this occasion, I would like to thank all the countries, peoples and institutions rejecting the siege that had devastating effects for my people and have shown solidarity with my country in other ways.
In this context, I would like to thank especially the Turkish Government for the great support it has provided throughout history.
Our bilateral relations, which have reached 66 years this year, have reached a very positive level especially in the political field.
Good relations between these two countries have been confirmed once again with the meeting held last week between Cuba President and Turkish Vice President Mr. Fuat Oktay.
The meeting was a continuation of the past meetings held between the top representatives of the two countries.
I would like say that Cuban Government wants to strengthen its economic and commercial ties with Republic of Turkey.
Last year, trade between the two countries had increased by more than 40 percent, and important Turkish firms had made various investments in Cuba. We are pleased with these developments.”
Minister Zehra Zümrüt also made a speech at the reception. Zümrüt said, “First of all, I sincerely congratulate the national day of the Republic of Cuba and the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.
On the occasion of this important day, I would like to congratulate the friendly Cuban people on behalf of our state, our government and our nation. Turkey and Cuba has good relations on the basis of mutual respect. Our cooperation takes its power from the common understanding of our potential in all areas.
Our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a historical visit to Cuba in 2015 and we have been making significant progress in our relations since then.
In our day, Turkey and Cuba are collaborating in many different sectors like health, tourism, agriculture and construction industry. Turkish Airlines flights between Istanbul and Havana have increased the number of tourists between the two countries and made it possible for our business people to travel easily to Havana. Thus, Havana has become a favorite route of Turkish tourists in recent years.
Turkey is in solidarity with Cuba in multilateral platform, including the UN General Assembly.
Cuba has a special place in the heart of the Turkish people.
In the end of my words, I would like to congratulate the Cuban people once again in the presence of Ambassador Luis Alberto Amoros Nunez.
