Robert HARNEIS -TDO- (FRANCE) - Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has donated $1.5 million to help feed fasting people on the Gaza Strip during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to Telesur.
The Juventus striker has a history of helping the Palestinian cause and speaking out over the treatment of the Palestinian people by Israel in the past.
In November 2012, during Israeli attacks on Gaza, Ronaldo put his European Golden Boot trophy up for auction, and donated the $1.5 million proceeds to help the construction of a number of schools in Gaza.
On one occasion he showed his solidarity by refusing to swap shirts with an Israeli player after a World Cup qualifier between Portugal and Israel, although he shook hands.
Ronaldo also met Ahmad Daubasha, a 5-year-old boy who was the only survivor of a Palestinian family attacked by Israeli settlers. Ahmad was received by Ronaldo in 2016 at the Real Madrid training center where he photographed himself with the boy and gave him a shirt dedicated especially to him.
The Portuguese football star is known as one of the most generous and charitable athletes in world sport.
He has also donated significant sums to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Red Cross and works as an ambassador for major charities Save the Children, UNICEF and World Vision.
