Mustafa AY – TDO – 11.08.2018 On Friday, Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes proclaimed that Bogota will withdraw from Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) to follow distinct and new foreign policy on the continent. Minister Holmes expessed that unfunctionalized UNASUR inevitably necessitates new formation of a well-operational international/continental organisation. In case of establishment of new system, which is called as ‘Organisation of American States’, the member countries will seek for new border, migration and security policies.
Colombia’s new President Ivan Duque gave many promises to his proponents during his election mitings. One of the promises is that he will release a presidential decree prescribing Colombia’s withdrawal from UNASUR. However, since latest happenings are taken into consideration in the continent, Colombia’s announcment of withdrawal from union came right after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s accusations against Bogota.
