CLASHES BETWEEN THE ALLIED HOUTHI AND GPC PARTY IN YEMEN

Hassam Hameed-TDO-01.12.2017- Clashes between the allied groups had 4 people killed in the capital Sanaa this Wednesday. Clash broke out after Houthi rebels tried to take over the part of a complex ahead of the rally for Prophet Muhammad’s birthday which was on Thursday.

Both sides have accused each other of undermining the alliance. GPC accused Houthi rebels of being “cartoonish mercenary things”. Houthi rebels head accused Ali Abdullah Saleh(head of General People’s Congress) of unable to “understand the concept of alliance of partnership”.

The alliance in 2014 came as a surprise as Houthi rebels have orchestrated a rebellion against Mr. Saleh between 2004-2010. They also played a role in forcing Mr. Saleh to hand in his presidential power to the current president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

UN officials have said, that Yemen might face the biggest famine of decades. Officials around the world are urging Saudi Arabia to ease the blockade so humanitarian aid can go through. Saudi Arabia accuses Houthi rebels of firing missiles to its capital, Riyadh.
