CHINA AND VIETNAM HAD A CONSENSUS TO KEEP COMPETITION IN SOUTH CHINA SEA UNDER CONTROL

İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- 16.05.2017 In a joint communiqué, released by Chinese Foreign Ministry, China and Vietnam declared that they will manage and properly control their maritime disputes, avoiding actions to complicate or widen them, so as to maintain peace in the South China Sea.

‘’Good’’ news came after what Chinese officials called ‘’positive’’ talks between President Xi Jinping and Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang.  It has been indicated that bothcountries had a "candid and deep" exchange of views on maritime issues and agreed to use an existing border talks mechanism to look for a lasting resolution.

Vietnam is a brave country that does not hesitate to challenge more powerful China. Vietnam is highlighted after Philippines pulled back from confrontation under President Rodrigo Duterte.

Moreover, it is important to remind that Quang was in Beijing for the weekend in order to attend the meeting about the massive construction project ‘’ the Modern Silk Road’’,connecting China to Asia, Europe and beyond.
