CELEBRATION OF 98TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FATHER OF THE NATION OF BANGLADESH BANGABANDHU SHEIKH MUJIBUR RAHMAN AND NATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY 2018




The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Istanbul celebrated 98th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day 2018 in a befitting manner. Essay and art competitions were held among the students of Istanbul International School, a renowned institute in Istanbul that brings together students from 48 countries. With the participation of around 200 audience including the teachers and students of the school, a colorful event was organized on 19 March 2018. The program of the Day included, among others, screening of historic 7th March speech of the Father of the Nation and a discussion session on life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as award giving ceremony to the winners of the competition. Presided over by Consul General Mohammad Monirul Islam, the discussion session was spoken by Tijen Celik, Principal of Istanbul International School and Dr. Nazmi Agil who is a well-known academician, researcher, author and poet.

Dr. Nazmi Agil remarked, 'a true leader never compromises people's rights for the sake of personal benefits and he always stands ready to make supreme sacrifice for his people. Founder of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was such a charismatic leader who remains immortal as the leader for the oppressed of the world'. In addition to that, he recited self-composed children poems reflecting the qualities of leadership and Bangabandhu. In his address, Consul General Mr. Islam recalled the unforgettable role and contributions of the Father of the Nation in the emergence of independent Bangladesh as well as rebuilding the newly independent country and establishing its international relations with the outside world. He also said that Bangabandhu's struggles have been concretized into a symbol in the fight of any sorts of oppression and discrimination. The recognition of the historic 7th March speech by the UNESCO as World's documentary heritage is a manifestation to that. Highlighting the unprecedented economic developments of Bangladesh, he informed the audience that Bangladesh has achieved the eligibility for graduating from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to middle income country. The program was rounded off by a cake cutting and entertaining the guests with sweets brought from Bangaldesh.

Earlier, the Consulate General organized a discussion at the Conference Hall of the Consulate on 17 March 2018 with the participation of Bangladesh expatriates living in Istanbul and officials of the Consulate. The discussion session was preceded by placing floral wreath to the portrait of the Father of the Nation and reading out messages from Hon. President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.
