Hassam Hameed-TDO-31.10.2017- The unilateral declaration of independence from Spain was rejected by the central government. Catalan’s President Carles Puigdemont has been sacked by Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. But Spain’s control over Catalonia is still being tested.
Large crowd gathered on Sunday in support of national unity. Puigdemont could face criminal charges for inciting a rebellion. Though being sacked, early morning on Monday he posted a picture on instagram of inside the palace. Deputy Soraya Saenz de Santamaria has been appointed to lead the region, who has been very critical in the past of the deposed Catalonian government.
EU has sided with the Spanish government and claimed Catalonia to be integral part of Spain, claiming the independence is not validated by the Spanish constitution. US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said :"The United States supports the Spanish government's constitutional measures to keep Spain strong and united."
