BRITISH PM THERESA MAY’S PARLIAMENT SPEECH RELATED TO BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS

Mustafa AY – TDO – 23.10.2018 Following anti-Brexit demonstrations in London at the previous week, PM Theresa May stated that there would be no other Brexit referendum. On Monday, PM May delivered a speech related to the process of Brexit negotiations before the parliament. She uttered that they managed to reach 95% of the terms of exit with Brussel. However, they haven’t been able to reach an unanimity over the issue of Irish border yet.

Owing to ongoing issue of Irish border, UK’s transition period for exit from the bloc would extend beyond 2020, which is not desired, said PM May. As her last words, PM May asserted that they will make enormous efforts to finalize the Brexit till May 2022.

EU has put the condition of Irish border forward to reach a deal finalizing Brexit. In accordance with this condition, UK will have to set up border with Republic of Ireland and autonomously-governed N. Ireland. That’s why, Brexit process is inevitably extending.
