BRAZILIAN SUPREME ELECTORAL COUNCIL ISSUED PROHIBITION OF RUNNING PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE FOR CAPTIVE FORMER PRESIDENT LULA




Mustafa AY – TDO – 02.09.2018 On Saturday, Brazilian Supreme Electoral Council issued electoral prohibition for former President Lula da Silva, who was imprisoned, from running in general elections in October. The Council justified its decision with the rationale that Brazilian Supreme Court convicted Lula of indictments of impeachment and corruption. As known, UN Commission on Human Rights requested Brazilian administration to enable Lula to exercise his political rights during his sentence.
