BRAZILIAN FRIGATE LIBERAL WILL BE AT THE NAVAL BASE OF MERSIN ON NOVEMBER 7, 2018




The Brazilian Embassy Is pleased to inform that on November 7th the Brazilian frigate "Liberal" will be in Mersin. On the occasion there will be a ceremony with local authorities to mark the anniversary of 160 years of bilateral diplomatic relations between Brazil and Turkey.

Frigate "Liberal" is the current flagship of the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force (MTF), deployed since October 2006, which supports the Lebanese Navy in monitoring its territorial waters, securing the Lebanese coastline and preventing the unauthorized entry of arms or related materials by sea into Lebanon.

This is the first Naval Task Force ever to take part in a United Nations peacekeeping mission. A total of 15 countries have contributed to the MTF: Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. It is currently commanded by Rear Admiral Eduardo Machado Vazquez from the Brazilian Navy.
