BOMB ATTACK IN ST. PETERSBURG




İlknur Şebnem Öztemel –TDO- A bomb attack happened in St. Petersburg, the second largest city in the state, at 02:30 p.m. (local time- 12.30am GMT).

The attack happened while the train was moving from Technology Institute to Sennaya Ploshad metro station. 10 people killed and 50 injured in the attack.

There was a hero in the train. Swetlana Petrenko from Russian Institute of Investigation indicated that that machinist saved several lives as he did not stop the train, reached the following station and made it easier for search and rescue teams to save the wounded. She said ‘’ the machinist took the right decision, not to stop the train and made it easier to evacuate people and lessened the number of deaths’’.

Moreover, it has been denounced that police found a second unexploded bomb at Ploshad Vosstaniya metro station.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was also in the city during the attack.

City’s subway system was temporarily shut down.

Furthermore, as Ibrahim Joudeh from El Masdar newspaper, reported from Damascus, Tahrir Al Damascus fired 20 cannonballs to Russian Embassy. Fortunately, nobody got hurt.
