BANGLADESH-RUSSIA MEMORANDUM OVER NUCLEAR POWER PLANT BECAME REAL WITH STATE CEREMONY OF ‘THE FIRST CONCRETE’




Mustafa AY – TDO – 01.12.2017 Rosatom, which is a state-led nuclear energy institution, reached a memorandum with Bangladeshi govt. officials over building Nuclear Power Plant ‘Rooppur’ in 2015. In November 30, the ceremony for ‘the first concrete of Rooppur-1’ was organized with participation of PM Sheikh Hasina, Bangladeshi bureaucratic administration and Rosatom’s Director General Alexei Likhachev.

Beginning with the technical details, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be having two innovative VVER-1200 nuclear reactor which contain total power of 2,400 MW. Today, Bangladesh’s total production of energy consists of 4,000 MW, over the half of today’s total energy to be met by Rooppur. When Rooppur-1 reactor is scheduled to finish in 2023, Rooppur-2 reactor’s schedule is for 2024.
