AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL STRIPPED MYANMAR’S PRESIDENT OF ‘AMBASSADOR OF CONSCIENCE’ AWARD

Mustafa AY – TDO – 15.11.2018 Amnesty International has just released an expected decision relating to Myanmar’s President Aung San Suu Kyi, who was rewarded with one of the most prestigious award ‘Ambassador of Conscience’. In accordance with the decision, Amnesty International stripped Suu Kyi of the award on the grounds that she didn’t manage to withstand against atrocities committed against Rohingyan Muslims.

Myanmar’s President Suu Kyi was found worthy to be rewarded with the most prestigious award in Amnesty International during house arrest in 2009. Amnesty International considered that she deserved to be honoured with this award because her brave stance against injustices by the government officials led her to suffer from house arrest in vain.
