AMERICA FIRST IS NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF FOREIGN PARTNERSHIPS, SAYS US

Hassam Hameed-TDO-25.01.2018- Protectionist US President Donald Trump will fly to World Economic Forum(WEF) to pitch his ‘America first’ policy to skeptics. US top officials are saying that US is protecting its interests, same as other countries do as playing field is not leveled equally. Mr. Trump will also be promoting international partnerships. China has voiced concern over recent tariffs on imports from its country flying to US.

"This is about an America First agenda but America First does mean working with the rest of the world," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters. Also he said, "It just means that President Trump is looking out for American interests, no different than other leaders look out for their own". Although tariffs came as abhorrent to businessmen, the cutting of corporate tax rate to 21% has been greeted well. US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in Davos, "Trade wars are fought every single day... and unfortunately every single day there are various parties violating the rules and trying to take unfair advantage".

China has criticized the tariffs, hoping US to refrain from it. Wang Hejun, Director of Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau of Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said, “We are concerned about a trade war, and we don’t want to see a trade war between China and the US. It will not only negatively affect the two countries’ economies, but also the global one”. Chinese foreign ministry claim that whole global industry related to it will be affected by these tariffs. The american solar industry Association claims that 23000 jobs will be lost as a result of these tariffs.
