AMENDED VERSION OF NAFTA SIGNED BY LEADERS OF MEMBER COUNTRIES

Mustafa AY- TDO-01.12.18 On Friday, US President Donald Trump, Canadian PM Justin Tredeau and Mexican President E.P. Nieto signed new NAFTA Accord, which has gone through the long process of amendment, in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires. Implementation of amended free trade deal necessitates unanimous ratification of parliaments of all parties.

In the very beginning of 2017, when Trump inaugurated, he began to agitate Capitol Hill for either repealing or amending the trade deal, which has trade volume of $1.2 trillion, by coming up with a thesis “the agreement undermines our economy irreversibly”. However, Trump has turned recently or been obliged to turn positive for NAFTA after long-lasting challenging period of negotiation for new blueprint of NAFTA. It may be because USA has come to a dead-end that pushes Trump government to compensate for the cost of trade war with China through his neighbors.
