ALLIES ARE READY TO SEND MORE TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN BUT THERE IS NO PLAN

İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-29.06.2017-  European diplomats said allies of the North Atlantic Treaty are ready to send additional troops to Afghanistan for a permanent solution if there is a clear American plan on the issue. It is argued that European authorities will have an appointment about the issue with US, Secretary of Defense, Jim Mattis.

Earlier this month,  fifteen allies of the organization including UK and Australia , can send soldiers to the country in order to train local forces and cope with alarming territorial gains of Taiban, starting with 2018.

NATO leads some 13,450 multinational troops in Afghanistan, who are training the country's armed forces. About 8,400 are U.S. personnel, some 6,900 of whom come under the NATO command structure. US want to send 3,000-5,000 more troops to Afghanistan, and other NATO members might send around 1,200. However, the decision has not been approved even by American authorities.

There is a huge mass about the military strategy towards Afghanistan in Washington. Recently, Mattis said he would turn to Washington to "finish out some things" in consultation with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford  and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Flowingly, he stated that  "And then we'll present to the president a strategy that's been informed by our allies, to include Afghanistan of course, and given a framework that is regional in nature and focuses on: how we end this war" .

Afghanistan is like a stronghold for violence and chaos for about fifteen years. None of the World leaders were able to present an acceptable and applicable solution to the problem. It seems, similar to his predecessors, US President Donald Trump cannot find an easy strategy for it. Maybe his weakest point was the lack of his own foreign policy during campaigns, except migration.
