ALL SET FOR SPURT IN TURKEY-IRAN ECONOMIC RELATIONS: USD 35 BILLION IN TRADE VOLUME TARGETED

Following the general elections to be held in the country on November 1st, Turkey will enter a new political climate and conditions. However, whatever government may emerge from the elections, the one country with which the course of economic relations in particular will not change will be Iran. For the new government of Turkey, under the current conditions of the world economy which is not growing at the desired rate, its next door neighbour Iran with its rising consumption trend and search for new production fields will be the top candidate with which to improve relations. With the lifting of the economic sanctions imposed by the UN and the USA, the Iranian economy is opening up to the world. With the aid of this mild climate as well as the realisation of the optional trade agreement for which negotiations had been ongoing over the last ten years, Turkey can increase the value of its economic and trade relations with Iran to the USD 30-35 billion level in a few years. This means tripling the current volume of trade. By Cahit Uyanýk
