ALGERIA IS A NEW MEDIATOR TO RESOLVE THE GULF CRISIS




By Adel Tayari – TDO- (TUNUSIA) Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani received on Sunday (August 6th) Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, who is visiting Doha as part of a tour of the region involving eight Arab countries. Mesahel also met with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest.

A statement issued by the Algerian Foreign Ministry pointed out that Abdelkader Messahel carries messages from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to the presidents and kings of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan. The ministry said that the visit of Abdelkader Messahel will discuss the development of bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues, especially the situation in Syria, Yemen and Libya, the Gulf crisis, the Palestinian issue and combating extremism and terrorism.

For reference, Algeria stood by neutrality at the outbreak of the Gulf crisis two months ago  calling on the Gulf States to dialogue to resolve the crisis and stressed the non-interference in the internal affairs of States and respect for sovereignty.
