News Centre –TDO – Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Abdul Rahim Sayedjan has hosted a reception at Ankara Sheraton Hotel to mark the 99th anniversary of the independence of Afghanistan.
The reception was attended by Turkey’s Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar, Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soylu as well as many representatives of diplomatic missions and other guests.
In his speech, Minister Akar said that relations between Turkey and Afghanistan run very deep and that they had continued for more than 100 years.
Akar pointed out that ties between Afghanistan and Turkey were constantly developing in every field and that their strength became especially apparent during difficult times.
Akar stated that under bilateral agreements and understandings reached in the NATO framework, some members of the Turkish Armed forces, police and civilian elements were active in Afghanistan and that these units were successfully undertaking the security and management of the Hamid Karzai International Airport.
Ambassador Abdul Rahim Sayedjan said that his country had suffered much throughout history in order to preserve its independence, national dignity and values and that at present Afghanistan continued to fight against terrorism and radicalism.
Sayedjan said that Afghanistan was on the right path to overcome the difficulties it faced and that they had made good progress towards the aim of a safer and better life for all citizens of Afghanistan.
Sayedjan added that this would not have been possible without the material and moral support of Afghanistan’s allies, including brother and friend Turkey, and said “Our relationship with brother country Turkey has been founded on good will for years and our relations in the future will continue to be good.”
Following the speeches, Akar and Sayedjan cut the cake prepared for Independence Day and guests were offered refreshments.
