İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-19.10.2017- 19th National Congress of Chinese Communist Party started on Wednesday. The most highlighting development in the meeting was common apppreciation about Xi Jinping and his newly introduced theoretical ideal of building a new China melted in the bowl of Socialism and characteristics of Chinese culture which is also adepted to ‘’new modern era’’.
The crucial congress which usually happens twice in a decade, has begun with Jinping’s historical speech about building a prosperious, “modern socialist country” for a “new era”. He stated that China would become a “basically” modernized socialist country by 2035 and a modern socialist “strong power” with leading influence on the world stage by 2050.
Moreover, Jinping presented 14 points as turning points that define the road map of a long development period. According to this, government will basically realize socialist modernization in the first stage from 2020 to 2035, before developing China into a "great modern socialist country" that is "prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful".
Besides, another significant thing happened in the congress is Jinping’s new status as his name was crowned in the constitution. Therefore, he has been elevated to the level of previous leaders exemplified by Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory. Indeed, he has been widely accepted as the second-most important leader in the history of Chinese Communist Party after Mao Zeadong.
Regardless of Jinping’s personel power in domestic politics, even today, it is possible see the increasing impact of Beijing in main international issues and widening sphere of influence like Jinping dominated World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
In the light of the recent data provided by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Chinese economy has expanded 6.8% in the third quarter of 2017. Global economy has been properly used by Chinese authorities and Beijing increased it’s credibility via various diplomatic and economic measures. It seems, only challange in front of Chinese officers are lproblems about democracy, transparency and human rights.
